About ThornleyField

A Singapore-based reference archive focused on nature reserves, ecological corridors and biodiversity records across the island.

What ThornleyField covers

ThornleyField is an independently maintained information archive focused on Singapore's protected natural areas — primarily the four gazetted nature reserves managed by NParks, the network of ecological corridors linking them and the coastal and freshwater wetland habitats around the island's perimeter.

The content draws on publicly available data from the National Parks Board (NParks), the National Environment Agency, published academic research and field records contributed by Singapore's active birding and naturalist communities.

Articles on this site follow an informational format: species accounts, habitat descriptions, trail notes, conservation history and relevant policy context. There is no commercial relationship between ThornleyField and any government agency, tour operator or wildlife product retailer.

Editorial approach

Content is written and reviewed by people with direct experience of the reserves covered — either through field research, regular trail visits or access to scientific literature. Where statistics or species records are cited, the source is linked directly in the article text.

ThornleyField does not publish species location data that could be misused — for example, precise GPS coordinates of nesting sites or known dens of threatened mammals. This is in line with the approach recommended by NParks and the Nature Society (Singapore).

Articles are updated when new survey data, NParks announcements or significant ecological changes make the existing text inaccurate. Each article carries a "last updated" date at the top.
